What is Required Reading?

Required Reading is how BFF makes sure the people doing the work have actually read — and signed off on — the documents that govern it. Admins assign a Policy, SOP, Work Instruction, or Training document to readers; each reader acknowledges a specific version with an electronic signature.

Your Reading List

Navigate to Required Reading in the sidebar (Docs group). The page shows everything assigned to you:

  • Filter buttons: Pending, Completed, and All
  • Each row shows the document’s tier badge (Policy, SOP, Work Instruction, or Training), title, current version, any note from the assigner, and the due date — overdue items are flagged in red
  • The subtitle tells you at a glance how many documents are awaiting acknowledgement (or “All caught up!”)

Acknowledging a Document

  1. Click an assignment to open it
  2. Read the document — you must scroll to the end before the signing controls unlock (“Scroll to the end of the document to enable signing.”)
  3. In the Acknowledge & Sign section, type your full name as your signature
  4. Check the attestation: “I have read and understood version N of this document”
  5. Click “Acknowledge”

Your acknowledgement is recorded against that exact version, with a timestamp — this is your e-signature for audit purposes.

When a Document Changes

Acknowledgements are version-scoped. If a document you’ve already acknowledged is republished, your sign-off goes stale and the assignment returns to Pending — you’ll get a “Re-acknowledge” notification, and the document reappears in your reading list.

If a stale document governs one of your tasks, the task page shows an “Acknowledgement required” banner listing what you need to re-read, with a link straight to Required Reading.

Acknowledging for an AI Agent

AI agents can be assigned required reading too. Their responsible human signs on their behalf: the assignment shows “on behalf of {agent name}”, and the attestation reads “…on behalf of {agent name}.” The flow is otherwise identical.

Notifications

Three notification types keep your reading list current:

NotificationMeaning
Reading AssignedYou’ve been given a new assignment
Document ChangedA document linked to your task was republished
Re-ack RequiredYour previous acknowledgement is now stale

Each links directly to your Required Reading page.

Tip: Treat overdue required reading like an overdue task — your acknowledgement is what proves your work follows the current procedure, not an old one.
